Overview

Main board of a handheld device with an e-ink display. An STM32H562 and an iCE40UP5K FPGA drive the panel through its dedicated PMIC; the board integrates a power-path battery charger, BLE, microSD, inertial and environmental sensors and per-rail power monitoring. Winner of the 2026 Innovation Journey award.

Design challenges solved

  1. 6 layers in 65 × 49 mm: MCU, FPGA, e-paper PMIC and charger in less than a credit card's footprint.
  2. Switchable rails (load switches) and 4-channel current sensing to tune battery life.
  3. ESD protection on every external connector and the USB-C port.
