Overview

Compact board that digitizes an analog video signal, processes it in an iCE40 HX8K FPGA with external SRAM and regenerates it with a high-speed DAC. The whole chain —conversion, logic and memory— fits in 36 × 36 mm.

Design challenges solved

  1. 256-ball BGA fan-out in 6 layers and 36 × 36 mm.
  2. High-speed parallel buses between ADC, FPGA, SRAM and DAC with dedicated buffers.
  3. Ferrite-filtered rails to keep the analog side clean from the digital side.
